Koh Samui · Islands & boat trips
Ang Thong Marine Park from Koh Samui
The trip, in short
Mu Ko Ang Thong is the archipelago that gave Alex Garland the idea for The Beach: forty-two islands of limestone in shallow green water, uninhabited apart from a ranger station.
The day’s centrepiece is Koh Mae Ko, where a steep 500-metre climb ends at a viewpoint over Talay Nai — a saltwater lake sealed inside the island, connected to the sea only underground. Then Koh Wua Talap for the second viewpoint, and kayaking through the channels.
The Gulf’s weather calendar is the opposite of the Andaman’s: this trip is at its best between February and September.
